Job Description – Medical Receptionist
Job Summary –
Perform medical assistant front desk duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology.
clinic. or laboratory procedures. Duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments.
compiling and recording medical charts. reports. and correspondence and maintaining confidential
medical files. Data entry of patient demographics. Greeting patients and collecting
copays/ deductibles at checkout.
Tasks and Responsibilities –
- Prepare all clinics a day in advance. Print patient demographics. verifications and last notes.
- Obtain any referrals that are needed. If unable to retrieve referral contact patient before
coming into office.
- Verification of insurance benefits for all new patients. follow-up patients. as well as verifying
Medicaid patients are eligible at every visit. Verification forms must be complete when
speaking to a representative make sure to reference# given during conversation. if via
website indicate on verification form via website
- Obtain all referrals required for HMO / and Medicaid Plan patients. Verify referral is accurate
and valid. Making sure authorizations are obtained also for Workers Comp DME and Medicaid
Plan Patients. Exam (Superior,Commercial,Aetna,Medicaid)
- Greet patients with a smile and an appropriate greeting. Check in follow-up patients and
obtain and enter all demographics for new patients
- Scan all DME consent forms, medical records and documents into the EMR.
- Check out patients. Schedule follow up appointments. Calculate and Collect any co-pays.
co-insurances and deductibles based off verifications.
- Interview patients to complete documents, case histories. or forms. such as intake or
\insurance forms.
- Answer or direct any questions patient may have about billing or treatment.
- Balance end of day batches from daily collections as well as Point of Sale before sending it to
business office.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
- Schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments. surgeries, or medical consultations.
- Arrive to the workplace by 7:45 am . Receptionist understands that clinic may run over 5:00
pm clinic time and will need to stay until last patient is checked out. Front desk should never
be left unattended.
- Maintain tidy workstation and waiting room.
